About the Role
Research topics: urban stormwater, water quality, real time control, smart infrastructure, IoT
Description
The Ohio State University Stormwater Management Program focuses on the impact of urbanization and development on water resources at the site and watershed scale. Our research spans a variety of water resources problems, including urban stormwater, agricultural runoff, acid mine drainage, and construction site runoff. We take a holistic approach to quantify the effects of human development on receiving waters and ways to mitigate these impacts using natural treatment mechanisms such as green stormwater infrastructure. The advent of internet-of-things (IoT) technologies has the potential to transform these passive systems into actively managed stormwater controls to manage pollutants, promote plant health, and improve the quality of urban environments in the face of a changing climate. We seek a dedicated Master’s student who will conduct and manage laboratory-scale research of real time control technologies used to improve the performance of bioretention practices in Ohio and across the country. Additional research opportunities related to field-scale
testing and modeling of real time control technologies are available at the discretion of the successful candidate.
