The Journal of Ecological Engineering Design (JEED) is the open-access journal of the American Ecological Engineering Society, published in partnership with the University of Vermont Libraries. The Journal, which launched at the AEES 2022 Annual Meeting, aims to expand understanding of the science and design of ecosystem processes, functions, and services, and to amplify the role of design as scholarship in academic and professional communities.

JEED is among the first academic journals in the field to publish under a diamond open-access model: The content is always freely available to readers via the internet and authors do not pay any fees to publish.

JEED invites insights, original papers, case studies, and design portfolios rooted in the fundamentals of ecological engineering — "the design of sustainable ecosystems that integrate human society with its natural environment for the benefit of both" . Published studies will provide analysis of complex connections between physical, chemical, and biological systems within an ecosystem context, with a focus on design of solutions to complex, multi-sector problems spanning local to global scales.

Ecological Engineering

The Journal of Ecosystem Restoration

EE Journal Cover.png

"Ecological engineering has been defined as the design of ecosystems for the mutual benefit of humans and nature. The journal is meant for ecologists who, because of their research interests or occupation, are involved in designing, monitoring, or restoring ecosystems, and can serve as a bridge between ecologists and engineers.

Specific topics covered in the journal include: habitat reconstruction; ecotechnology; synthetic ecology; bioengineering; restoration ecology; ecology conservation; ecosystem rehabilitation; stream and river restoration; reclamation ecology; non-renewable resource conservation. Descriptions of specific applications of ecological engineering are acceptable only when situated within context of adding novelty to current research and emphasizing ecosystem restoration. We do not accept purely descriptive reports on ecosystem structures (such as vegetation surveys), purely physical assessment of materials that can be used for ecological restoration, small-model studies carried out in the laboratory or greenhouse with artificial (waste)water or crop studies, or case studies on conventional wastewater treatment and eutrophication that do not offer an ecosystem restoration approach within the paper.

The journal welcomes full papers, short communications, reviews, and letters to the editor. We are pleased to publish papers from multidisciplinary approaches that are pertinent to a wide range of scholars, managers, practitioners, and policymakers across ecological sciences." - ELSEVIER

Solutions

Solutions is a nonprofit print and online publication devoted to showcasing bold and innovative ideas for solving the world's integrated ecological, social, and economic problems. The Journal's mission is to provide a forum for developing and discussing seriously creative ideas to solve society’s most pressing problems in an integrated way. The Journal uses a much more constructive, trans-disciplinary review process than typical journals. It encourages collaboration and co-authorship between original authors and reviewers.

As a supporting society, AEES members will receive $5 off the annual subscription rate.
