About the Role
Ducks Unlimited, Inc. is an environmental non-profit that specializes in conserving wetland and grassland habitats to support waterfowl populations. Since 1937, DU has protected, enhanced, and restored over 18 million acres of wetland and grassland habitats. DU is supported by grassroots members, local, state, and national grant revenue, and private foundations and major donors. DU is a turnkey organization with biologists, engineers, working lands, and science professionals supporting project development, delivery, and adaptive management.
Ducks Unlimited has an opening for a full-time Senior Engineering Technician based out of the DU field office within the USDA-NRCS office in Elkhorn, WI (location negotiable). The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design, and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. Primary responsibilities will be focused in Southern Wisconsin with occasional work throughout the State and Region.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate with design engineers and biologists on project related tasks.
Perform topographic surveys using total station and GPS survey equipment.
Provide AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting support. Applicants should be familiar with preparation of:
Topographic survey drawings;
Land development plans;
Detailed design drawings from engineering notes, sketches and/or other drawings, including integration of data from a variety of sources (e.g., LiDAR, GPS, total-station, laser level);
Construction/staking plans;
Cross-sections, alignments, corridors, feature lines, profiles, earthwork and grading tools, and quantity calculation methods;
As-built/record drawings; and
Drafting details needed for permit applications.
Bidding, contract and construction management.
Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed. Field work includes strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Must be willing to learn [TJ4] to operate and haul ATV and outboard boat when necessary. Overnight travel will be required, and work may extend outside normal business hours. Working on weekends is not a common occurrence.
Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications and schedules.
Represent DU with local, state, and federal personnel, and private landowners, along with other mitigation and conservation partners in a professional manner at all times.
Qualifications:
Experience and Education: A two-year technical degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the construction industry is preferred.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Oral, written, and communication skills are essential. Must be self-motivated, goal oriented, and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.
Technological Proficiency: Desirable qualifications include experience with Civil3D, land surveying, and construction inspection.
Salary Range:$65,000.00 To $85,000.00 Annually
