About the Role
Salary Range: $65,000.00 To 85,000.00 Annually
Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU), the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self-motivated, experienced civil engineering technician to support DU in our ongoing coastal and inland wetland restoration efforts within the northeast. This position will have the opportunity to work both remotely (home office) as well as within a formal office setting. While the ideal candidate would be located in New York State (proximate to DU’s Syracuse office), New England may also be considered. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. This position offers high job satisfaction for those interested in spending time both in the field and in the office on work that benefits wildlife and communities.
Qualifications
A two-year technical degree in a related field (such as land surveying, civil engineering technology, natural resource conservation, agriculture, wildlife management, etc.) and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the engineering/construction industry is preferred. Candidates should have experience with Autodesk Civil3D, land surveying, and construction management and inspection. Demonstrated oral, written and effective communication skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, goal oriented, and able to solve problems while working in close team-based relationships.
Specific duties may include:
Coordinate with design engineers on project related tasks.
Perform topographic surveys; equipment may include total station and GPS survey equipment.
AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting support. Applicants should be familiar with:
Preparation of topographic survey drawings from field data (e.g., LiDAR, GPS, total-station, laser level, etc.).
Land development, design, construction, and staking plan set generation.
Preparation of detailed design drawings from engineering notes, sketches and/or other drawings, including integration of data from various sources.
Cross-sections, alignments, corridors, feature lines, profiles, surface creation, grading tools, and various earthwork quantity calculation methods.
Preparation of as-built/record drawings.
Assistance with drafting details needed for permit applications.
Conduct field inspections on active construction projects and perform construction management and oversight as needed.
Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
Represent DU with local, state, and federal personnel, and private landowners, along with other mitigation and conservation partners in a professional manner at all times.
Field work includes strenuous outdoor activity in difficult remote environments and in adverse weather conditions. Candidate must be able to operate ATVs, small boats and outboard motors when necessary. Overnight travel will be required, and work may extend outside normal business hours. Working on weekends is not a common occurrence.
